The 10k Poker Challenge will follow the progress of the 10kHero as he attempts to make $10,000 profit starting with just a $40 bankroll, playing micro stakes cash games of No Limit Hold 'Em online.

Aiming to not only improve his own game, but to help other novice players develop theirs, the 10kHero will blog regularly on his progress and hopefully show how to be a profitable player at micro stakes No Limit Hold 'Em.

Bankroll management is an essential tool for any poker player. The table below sets out a bankroll growth plan over 500,000 hands, which the 10kHero will use (purely as a guide).

The stake column shows the small and big blinds at a particular level, the 10kHero will obviously start at the lowest possible level and work his way up.

The win rate column gives an estimation on how well the 10kHero will play at each stake level. The standard measure for win rate is defined as the average amount of big bets won or lost per 100 hands, where a big bet is twice the size of the big blind.

The duration column is how long the 10kHero plans to play at each stake level. The plan assumes playing an average of 1370 hands per day. The 10kHero will multi-table, playing up to 10 tables simultaneously. Assuming an average of 60 hands per hour per table, he will be required to play for approximately 2 hours 20 minutes per day.

The profit column shows how much profit the 10kHero plans to make at each stake level. He will only move up to a new stake level once his bankroll is greater than 20 full buy-ins at that new stake. A full buy-in is defined as 100 big blinds.

Similarly, if his bankroll falls below 20 full buy-ins at his current level, the 10kHero will be forced to step down a stake level. This is an essential part of bankroll management, and ensures the full bankroll is never lost. This is also why he must start with a $40 bankroll (20 full buy-ins at $0.01 / $0.02).
